After much
anticipation due to last week’s rainout, Scott Sexton dominated the
Super Late Model Feature flag-to-flag. In qualifying, Sexton turned
fast-time in his #52 Byrd’s Radiator/TNT Chassis/RACETEK Race Engines
Pontiac Grand Prix over Brad Coffey in the #88 Smokey View Radiator
Chevy Monte Carlo. On the start, Sexton quickly took the advantage
over Coffey, until the first caution on the first lap, caused by Roger
Best #007 spinning out in turn four. On the restart, Sexton quickly
resumed the lead over Coffey, but, the race was halted by the #00 of
Jeff Smith spinning in turn two, also causing minor damage to the #3
of Kelvin White. White is able to continue racing. The #00 returned to
his original starting position. On the 2nd restart, Sexton
quickly motored away from the rest of the field. However, on lap 6
another caution came, due to spins by the #3 of Kelvin White and the
#21 of Jody Teffeteller. White was sent to the rear. Immediately on
the restart, the #49 car of Jonathon Davenport breezes by the #88 of
Brad Coffey to gain the second position. On lap 13, Sexton began to
lap traffic, but is again slowed by a caution, due to a blown engine
which erupted into a small fire under the hood of the #49 car. On the
restart, Sexton again checks out!!! On the 23rd lap, he
began to lap traffic again, and held off Coffey for the win.
In the
Sportsman division, Jason Carter (#39) of
Madisonville,
TN
won the heat race which gave him the pole position. On the start,
Carter took the lead over the #3 of Ralph Standridge. The race went
caution free until lap 15 when the #39 and #3 cars got together while
battling for the lead, both cars suffered damage as the #39 spun out
bringing out the caution. On the restart, Ralph Standridge lead the
field into turn one. On the final lap, Jeff Franklin in the #j12
passed Standridge for the lead exiting turn two.
Franklin
held off Standridge for the win.
In the
Modified Street division, the #107.7 of Mike Dyke obtained the pole by
winning the heat race. The first caution came on lap 8 due to a spin
by Tim Kyle in the #124. He was allowed to return to his original
position, while Dyke was still in the lead. On the restart, no other
cautions were brought out, which allowed Dyke to hold on to the lead
over #5 Duke Lowes and #31 Johnny Ridings.
The #38 of
Brad Hamilton started on the pole for the Mini Stock feature. The
first caution was brought out when the hood of #4 Gordon Watkins came
flying off. On the restart, the #0 of Vince Cole quickly makes a pass
on Hamilton. A caution comes out due to #7 Clifford Sands’ stalled
car. On the second restart of the race, another caution immediately
came out when the #12 of Bo Allison hit the wall going into turn 4.
On the restart, caution 4 came out when the #38 had a flat tire
between turns 2 and 3. The #24 of Joe Cook spun out to avoid causing
a collision with Hamilton. Vince Cole was still in the lead at this
point, and the #24 car was sent to the rear. On the last restart of
the race, which was lap 6, the #24 came from the back to pass the #9
of Mike Tidwell to take the second position. Vince Cole was first.
For the Front
Wheel Drive division, the #14 of Benji Braden started on the pole. As
the pack went into turn 1, they were five wide! The first caution came
out before the first lap was completed, due to contact between
numerous cars. Several cars spun out, but only two are unable to
continue racing. The restart came with everyone starting in their
original positions. By the 5th lap, the #14 car began to
lap traffic. On lap 7, the second caution came out when the hood of
Jeremy Thurmon’s #03 cars engine blew up. Due to his lack of ability
to see, he spun out and the race was shortened due to excessive fluids
on the track. The #14 of Braden took the first position, followed by
the #18 of Robert McDonnie and the #24 of Ronnie Shelton.
For the
Modified Mini feature, only three cars were present. The #10 of Jamie
Miller started on the pole. The race was caution free, which gave the
#10 the win over the #4 of Jeff Smith and #0 of Robert McIntosh.
