7/26/2004 ) - Gaffney, South Carolina's Chris “Smokey” Madden lead the
final 6 laps at Murphy Speedway Friday night and took home the Freaky
Friday $3,00.00 pay day.
The “Newport Nightmare” Jimmy Owens took a commanding lead on lap one
and never looked back until suspension problems ended his night on lap
34, when broke a ball joint on his FORD powered machine. Chris Madden
inherited the lead and stayed in front of the second place car of
former Winston Cup Champion Bill Elliott. Elliott powered his #9
Coca-Cola/Bill Elliotts Awesome Products from a seventh place starting
position to pass team mate #c9 Ray Cook for the second place finish.
Bill looked under Madden on the last restart but didn’t have enough to
make the move. Rounding out the top five were Kelvin White and Joey
Standridge.
In the
Modified Street division Sweetwaters own Tim Kyle dominated the race
from his pole position starting line up when Kenny Bradburn was
sidelined with a broken ignition box.
Modified Mini saw Raymond Knox of Etowah, Tn go the distance and take
ome the checkered.
In the
Sportsman class Cleveland, Tennessean P. D. Doss pulled ahead of Jeff
Franklin and Ralph Standridge to take the 20 lap feature win.
