Racing has been Cancelled for September 18, 2004
Due to the remnants of the Category 4, now Tropical
Storm Ivan, Racing has been cancelled for this weekend at Murphy Speedway. The
Sweetwater and Eastern Tennessee area was hit hard Thursday and Friday with high
gusts of wind and torrential rains. Due to this the track and pits would be
saturated beyond packing. however, we will be racing next Saturday, September
26, 2004 with a $1,000 to win Limited Late Model show. For more information,

Welshan leads flag-to-flag at Murphy!
Jason
Welshan lead every lap to take the win at Murphy Speedway. He held off a early
challenging Jonathon Davenport who suffered a flat tire and a late race charge
by Joey Standridge whom finished in the second position. Over, PD Doss, Joe
Bowing, and Brad Coffey. Duke Lowe won a close race over Johnny Riding of
Walland and Tim Kyle of Sweetwater. In street stock action Mike Ghorley check
out from the rest of the field to take the win. And, Rusty Mellette #23 came
from the fourth starting position to take the win over Michael Hall of Lenoir
City, TN.
Tommy Kerr wins TOPLESS Late Model Feature over Scott Curtis!
Tommy Kerr won Friday Nights Late Model
feature after Pole-Sitter Roger Best #007 lost an
engine on lap 2. Kerr help off a charging Mike Ritchie in the late laps for the
Victory. Both, Ritchie #11 and Davenport #49, 2nd and 3rd respectively, lost
engines on the last lap which slid Scott Curtis into the second position. Adam
Beeler #66 won the Sportsman Feature over Tim Carey #1 after Pole-Sitter Justin
Arden #28 had a hard crash after contact with Carey on the first lap. Duke Lowe
#D5 won the Modified Street Feature after a turn 1 pileup which took 5 cars out
of the race. Lowe held off Sweetwater's own Tim Kyle #124 in a late race battle
which brought the two side-by-side to the checkered flag. Vince Cole #0 checked
out to win the Mini Stock Feature over Brad Albright #5. Alan Walker #5 won his
first FWD race of the year as he walked away from the field.

Scott "SUPERMAN" Sexton checks out to take the win at Murphy!
After much anticipation
due to last week’s rainout, Scott Sexton dominated the
Super Late Model Feature flag-to-flag. In qualifying, Sexton turned fast-time in
his #52 Byrd’s Radiator/TNT Chassis/RACETEK Race Engines Pontiac Grand Prix over
Brad Coffey in the #88 Smokey View Radiator Chevy Monte Carlo. On the start,
Sexton quickly took the advantage over Coffey, until the first caution on the
first lap, caused by Roger Best #007 spinning out in turn four. On the restart,
Sexton quickly resumed the lead over Coffey, but, the race was halted by the #00
of Jeff Smith spinning in turn two, also causing minor damage to the #3 of
Kelvin White. White is able to continue racing. The #00 returned to his original
starting position. On the 2nd restart, Sexton quickly motored away
from the rest of the field. However, on lap 6 another caution came, due to spins
by the #3 of Kelvin White and the #21 of Jody Teffeteller. White was sent to the
